CMS Best practices for In-service Training
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a rule to establish consistent emergency preparedness requirements for health care providers participating in Medicare and Medicaid, increase patient safety during emergencies, and establish a more coordinated response to natural and man-made disasters. The new CMS Rule requires Medicare and Medicaid participating providers and suppliers to provide training as a well-known industry best practice standards. Develop and maintain training and testing programs, including initial and annual training, and conduct drills and exercises or participate in an actual incident that tests the plan.

Best practice, as outlined in your Meals for All – Emergency & Disaster Management Policy & Procedure Manual, is at least once a year to conduct an in-service session on disaster plans and procedures. A walk-through demonstration of emergency procedures is highly recommended.
